Distractive Obsessions #10

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is THE EVOLUTION OF MARA DYER by Michelle Hodkin.
It's going to be published on October 23rd, 2012 by HarperTeen.
ISBN: 9781442421790 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon US / Amazon UK / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
Mara Dyer once believed she could run from her past.

She can’t.

She used to think her problems were all in her head.

They aren’t.

She couldn’t imagine that after everything she’s been through, the boy she loves would still be keeping secrets.

She’s wrong.

In this gripping sequel to The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the truth evolves and choices prove deadly. What will become of Mara Dyer next?

It's been a long time since I've featured a Distractive Obsession, but I just didn't have enough time to obsess over upcoming releases (and actually bought only very few books in the past weeks and months). But now I'm totally crazy about the upcoming release of The Evolution of Mara Dyer which has to be just über-awesome, because it's going to be released on my birthday!
I am dying to get my greedy little hands on a copy of this book, especially after the very nice cliffhanger of book #1. If you are not obsessing over this book like I am, I can only think of one good explanation - you haven't read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. And if that's true, you need to change that as soon as possible ( = pick up a copy right now) and then get a little bit crazy with me while waiting for its sequel.

Distractive Obsessions #09

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is DARKNESS BEFORE DAWN by J.A. London.
It's going to be published on May 29th, 2012 by HarperTeen.
ISBN: 9780062020659 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
This electrifying new trilogy blends the best of paranormal and dystopian storytelling in a world where the war is over. And the vampires won.

Humans huddle in their walled cities, supplying blood in exchange for safety. But not even that is guaranteed. Dawn has lost her entire family and now reluctantly serves as the delegate to Lord Valentine, the most powerful vampire for miles. It isn’t until she meets Victor, Valentine’s son, that she realizes not all vampires are monsters....

Darkness Before Dawn is a fresh new story with captivating characters, unexpected plot twists, a fascinating setting, and a compelling voice. Written under the name J. A. London by a talented mother-son team, the trilogy is perfect for fans of True Blood and the House of Night and Morganville Vampires series.

I can't believe that I haven't even pre-ordered Darkness Before Dawn even though I've been in love with the sound of it ever since I first read its synopsis. I love how the vampire genre is being combined with the dystopian genre lately - if this one is just a bit as good as The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa, I'm sure I'll like it!

Distractive Obsessions #08

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is OF POSEIDON by Anna Banks.
It's going to be published on May 22nd, 2012 by Feiwel & Friends.
ISBN: 9781250003324 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma’s gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom . . .

Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

I remember falling love with the cover and synopsis of Of Poseidon immediately when I first saw it. But within the past few weeks so many fabulous and positive reviews have started to appear on many, many blogs that it's almost impossible for me to resist the urge to put down my current read and pick up my eARC of Of Poseidon. This is why I can't wait to put it onto my tbr-pile for the next week and hopefully be swept away by its awesomeness.

Distractive Obsessions #07

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is REVIVED by Cat Patrick.
It's going to be published on May 8th, 2012 by Little, Brown Books For Young Readers.
ISBN: 9780316094627 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
As a little girl, Daisy Appleby was killed in a school bus crash. Moments after the accident, she was brought back to life.

A secret government agency has developed a drug called Revive that can bring people back from the dead, and Daisy Appleby, a test subject, has been Revived five times in fifteen years. Daisy takes extraordinary risks, knowing that she can beat death, but each new death also means a new name, a new city, and a new life. When she meets Matt McKean, Daisy begins to question the moral implications of Revive, and as she discovers the agency’s true goals, she realizes she’s at the center of something much larger—and more sinister—than she ever imagined.

Ever since I absolutely fell in love with Cat Patrick's debut novel Forgotten (take a look at my 5/5-review here), I was desperate to get my hands on her new novel Revived. It sounds completely different than Cat's first book, but just as awesome. But guess what happened? I forgot to pre-order it. I have to buy a lot of other (non-bookish) things this month, so I'm not sure when I'll get a copy of Revived, but I know that I'll definitely need to do it as soon as possible.

Distractive Obsessions #06

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is UNTIL I DIE by Amy Plum.
It's going to be published on May 8th, 2012 by HarperCollins.
ISBN: 9780062004048 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of lights and love.

As their romance deepens there’s one question they can’t ignore: How are they supposed to be together if Vincent can’t resist sacrificing himself to save others? Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality is in jeopardy.

In Die for Me, Amy Plum created a captivating paranormal mythology with immortal revenants and a lush Paris setting. Until I Die is poised to thrill readers with more heart-pounding suspense, spellbinding romance, and a cliff-hanger ending that will leave them desperate for the third and final novel in the series.

Considering that I'm actually lucky enough to have an eARC of Until I Die, it's pretty sad that I haven't read it yet, even though I've been dying to do so ever since I read the last page of Die For Me. But I'm blaming uni trying to keep me busy 24/7 at the moment, which is why I can't read as much as I want to at the moment... and I hate it. I've moved up Until I Die on my reading pile now and really hope to get to it next week. I'm dying to delve back into the world of the Revenants. ♥

Distractive Obsessions #05

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is SWEET EVIL by Wendy Higgins.
It's going to be published on May 1st, 2012 by HarperCollins.
ISBN:
9780062085610 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
What if there were teens whose lives depended on being bad influences? This is life for sons and daughters of fallen angels in Sweet Evil.

Tenderhearted Southern girl, Anna Whitt, was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage, and her will-power is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

A cross-country trip to meet her father forces Anna to face the reality that hope and love are not options for her kind. When she confronts her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

A few people were already lucky enough to get an ARC and have already read this. Am I jealous? Yes! Why? Because according to their reviews (e.g. Fiktshun's here), Sweet Evil does not only sound incredibly awesome - it actually lives up to these expectations. I have pre-ordered a copy a while ago and now I'm dying to get my e-mail from The Book Depository that they have it and will send it to me soon. Until then - go ahead and read my awesome interview with the lovely Wendy Higgins here.

Distractive Obsessions #04

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is THE SELECTION by Kiera Cass.
It's going to be published on April 24th, 2012 by HarperCollins.
ISBN: 9780062059932 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Yes, I do have an eARC of this one, but at the moment I have no idea when I'll get to it. I might have to change my complete reading-schedule for this one, but no matter what - I won't get to it this weekend. Maybe not even next week. But I'm dying to read this. Even though there have been quite a few mixed reviews during the last weeks for The Selection, I'm still in love with the sound of it. While I have to admit that it was the cover that originally pulled me in and made me want to know more about this novel, but after reading the summary I was hooked. The Bachelor set in a dystopian society? Sounds awesome!

Distractive Obsessions #03

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is INSURGENT by Veronica Roth.
It's going to be published on My 1st, 2012 by HarperCollins.
ISBN: 9780007442911 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Read the first two chapters here.

Goodreads Summary:
One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

If you haven't read Divergent, the first book of Veronica Roth's amazing dystopian series, then I should probably ask you why you're wasting your time by reading this post. Go and grab a copy immediately and read it! And you'll be happy you've done this now, because after that ending you'll want to read Insurgent immediately and fortunately it's not long until its release. I'm dying to get my hands on a copy of this sequel and considering the awesome amount of Insurgent-dedicated blog posts during the last weeks I'm not alone in my desperate need. I really hope this second book will be just as awesome as the first! Although I'm already afraid of how awful the wait for the third book will be...

Distractive Obsessions #02

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is GRAVE MERCY by Robin LaFevers.
It's going to be published on April 3rd, 2012 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
ISBN: 9780547628349
| pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

While I already have an eARC of Grave Mercy thanks to NetGalley, this one is distracting me more than any other book at the moment. Since it's going to be released in a few days many reviews are appearing all over the blogosphere and so far I don't think I've ever read a negative (or even mixed) one. Everyone seems to love this and I cannot wait to find out what I'll be thinking about it. My expectations are very high and while all of this hype makes me a bit scared to end up being disappointed by Grave Mercy, I need to read this as soon as possible.

Distractive Obsessions #01

Distractive Obsessions are books that are going to be released very soon and that I'm dying to read - books that I know I'm going to be obsessed with until I'll finally hold them in my hands and read them.

This week's pick is UNRAVELING by Elizabeth Norris.
It's going to be published on April 24th, 2012 by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins.
ISBN: 9780062103734 | pre-order: The Book Depository / Amazon / B&N

Goodreads Summary:
Two days before the start of her junior year, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed—as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she's opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn't possible, she knows—with every fiber of her being—that Ben has somehow brought her back to life.

But her revival, and Ben's possible role in it, is only the first of the puzzles that Janelle must solve. While snooping in her FBI agent father's files for clues about her accident, she uncovers a clock that seems to be counting down to something—but to what? And when someone close to Janelle is killed, she can no longer deny what's right in front of her: Everything that's happened—the accident, the murder, the countdown clock, Ben's sudden appearance in her life—points to the end of life as she knows it. And as the clock ticks down, she realizes that if she wants to put a stop to the end of the world, she's going to need to uncover Ben's secrets—and keep from falling in love with him in the process.

From debut author Elizabeth Norris comes this shattering novel of one girl's fight to save herself, her world, and the boy she never saw coming.

Okay, someone please tell me that this isn't awesome! I have to admit that when I first read the summary, I didn't add it to my to-read list immediately, but my slowly developing love for action and mystery made me regret that very fast. Ben and Janelle's love story sounds creepy, exciting and addicting at the same time and I can't wait to uncover all of the above-mentioned secrets. Also, it's fairly long - 445 pages of suspected awesomeness will hopefully keep me very busy once I get my hands on a copy of this. And should I end up not liking it, just imagine how gorgeous it will look on my shelf... the cover's almost enough reason to pre-order a copy.
