Cover Comparisons #68: Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama

Living in Germany gives me the perfect opportunity to compare original covers with the ones German publishers choose. Sometimes they're gorgeous, sometimes they make me cringe, but it's always interesting to see different covers for the same novel.

Cover Comparisons is a weekly feature here at Fictional Distraction.

I always liked the seductive and slightly dangerous feeling of the old US cover for Monstrous Beauty, but when I saw the new US version I fell in love with it immediately. I just absolutely love the colors and the mystery it emits. But when I saw the German version in a book store this week (it seems to have been released way before the English version which really confused me at first), I knew which cover is my favorite. The aqua / turquoise color scheme, the really pretty model and the lovely typography in combination with the wonderful textures - I love this cover! Definitely my favorite.

Last week's reviews:

Ditched, A Love Story by Robin Mellom

The eBook I bought:

Oppression by Jessica Therrien

The books I received for review:

ReVamped by Ada Adams
Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers
The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda

All These Lives by Sarah Wylie

Thanks to Ada Adams and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, St. Martin's Griffin, Macmillan & NetGalley.

I can't actually believe how awesome this week in books turned out to be. I'm way too excited for all of these titles and wish I could read faster, so I can get to them as soon as possible.

Waiting on Wednesday #36: Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)
Expected Publication: August 21st, 2012
Pages: 304
Goodreads Summary:
Fierce, seductive mermaid Syrenka falls in love with Ezra, a young naturalist. When she abandons her life underwater for a chance at happiness on land, she is unaware that this decision comes with horrific and deadly consequences. Almost one hundred forty years later, seventeen-year-old Hester meets a mysterious stranger named Ezra and feels overwhelmingly, inexplicably drawn to him. For generations, love has resulted in death for the women in her family. Is it an undiagnosed genetic defect . . . or a curse? With Ezra’s help, Hester investigates her family’s strange, sad history. The answers she seeks are waiting in the graveyard, the crypt, and at the bottom of the ocean—but powerful forces will do anything to keep her from uncovering her connection to Syrenka and to the tragedy of so long ago.

This sounds like a really mysterious and captivating story - I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this. I love mermaid stories even though I haven't read many of them and I definitely need to read more. :)

What are you waiting for this Wednesday?
