Fictional Distractions of the Week #44

Welcome to Fictional Distractions of the Week. It is inspired by Book Journey's It's Monday! What are you reading? and Fiktshun's My Reading Pile and it will show you what I'm planning to read during the next week.

The books I plan to read this week:

Again, I didn't get much reading done last week, so I only finished one book and finally started Confessions of an Angry Girl by Louise Rozett. I'm 10-20% in and like it so far, even though I expected the main character to be a bit older than she actually is. Let's see how this'll work out.

Goodreads Summary:
Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make…1. I'm livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I'm allowed to be irate, don't you?

2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is now enraged and out for blood. Mine.

3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and "seeing red" means being angry—get it?)

Then I have to (and am dying to) start My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century by Rachel Harris, which does not only sound super awesome, but has got some really amazing and raving reviews so far. Definitely very excited and hoping to at least start or maybe even finish this week.

I really doubt that I'll actually get so much reading done, but I'm actually hoping to start Flight by Alyssa Rose Ivy as well since its blog tour will be stopping by soon. Its summary definitely sounds intriguing, so I hope I'll enjoy it.

I was way too slow reading-wise last week, so I'm hoping to finally get to read The Forsaken by Lisa M. Stasse, which I've started already but am not really far into yet. I like what I've read so far though.

Goodreads Summary:

And, if I'm really lucky which I'm highly doubting, I might even get around to start My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century by Rachel Harris, which sounds like an absolutely amazing read and which I've heard really good things about already.

I'm finally back from vacation and am trying to get back into "the real life." It's both awesome and weird to be back home, especially since I could spend so much time at the beach and in the ocean during the last two weeks because we had insanely awesome weather. I also got around to reading some of my own books, but once I'm finished with City of Fallen Angels I will be going back to my review copies and hope to reduce that pile a lot. And I'm hoping to get to these new awesome books soon, too.

Excerpt:

Alessandra jerks back like I just suggested she prance around the square naked or something. “No! I believe I understand your meaning, and Lorenzo is certainly not my suitor. He is like a brother to me—the three of us grew up together.”

She resumes walking and I fall in step beside her, understanding there has to be more to the story. And as we near the end of the row, I finally ask, “If you’re not into the guy, then what’s the problem?”

At that same moment, a rich, deep chuckle hits my ears. My stomach involuntarily clenches and my gaze sharpens on the back of this mysterious Lorenzo.

Alessandra sighs. “That is the problem.” She places her hand on my arm and solemnly looks me in the eyes. “You must be careful. Lorenzo is beautiful, and it is not uncommon for a girl to walk away from meeting him with a piece of her heart left behind. But he is just eighteen, and not yet ready for marriage.”

I roll my eyes and laugh, then realize she’s serious. “Yeah, I assure you, there’s no danger on my end. I’m not exactly looking for marriage myself.” Because that would be crazy-town.

Alessandra wrinkles her nose as if she doesn’t believe me, but she removes her hand. We close the distance and Cipriano flashes me an open, honest to goodness, lighthearted smile.

“Lorenzo, this is the cousin I was telling you about.”

Slowly the guy turns and I fall head first into the richest chocolate-brown eyes I’ve ever seen. He blinks and long, luscious lashes feather across his bronzed cheeks. I can feel myself gawking, but I physically can’t drag my eyes away. Lorenzo doesn’t smirk or act all conceited, either. He simply stares back, his eyes casually skimming over me, causing my skin to warm and break out in a whole body tingle.

Time seems to stop, and the sounds of the market mute. Alessandra was right. This boy is beautiful.

And he’s looking at me.
